Most strong product launch video examples follow the same five beats: a hook in the first 3 seconds, a short world or tension beat, the product reveal, proof and detail, and an end card with the call to action. In a 30-second film that is roughly 0-3, 3-10, 10-18, 18-25 and 25-30 seconds. The 15 and 6 second cutdowns keep the hook and the end card and compress the middle.

The 30 second ad structure, beat by beat
| Beat | Time | Job | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hook | 0-3 s | Stop the thumb with one strange or beautiful image | Opening on a logo |
| World / tension | 3-10 s | Set the mood or the problem | Explaining too much in text |
| Reveal | 10-18 s | The product, whole, in its best light | Revealing too late for cutdowns |
| Proof & detail | 18-25 s | Two or three details that justify the price | Listing every feature |
| End card + CTA | 25-30 s | Name, date, where to buy | Holding it for under 2 seconds |
A worked example: script and shot list
An illustrative script for a fictional product, a matte black insulated bottle. No real brand, no real results.
| Time | Picture | Super (on-screen text) | Sound |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-3 s | Extreme macro: frost forming on a black surface, then cracking | none | Ice crack |
| 3-6 s | Wide: a frozen lake at dawn, empty | "-20°C outside." | Wind |
| 6-10 s | A gloved hand sets something down on the ice | "Hot inside." | Footsteps on snow |
| 10-14 s | Slow orbit reveals the bottle, steam rising from the open cap | none | Low swell |
| 14-18 s | Hard cut to studio: bottle on black, single coral rim light | Product name | Music hits |
| 18-22 s | Macro on the cap thread, then the matte texture | "12 hours hot." | Click of cap |
| 22-25 s | Bottle in a backpack side pocket, walking shot | "Fits where yours does." | Music |
| 25-30 s | End card: bottle, name, date, URL | "Out 14 March. Link in bio." | Music resolves |
The reveal starts at 10 seconds, the proof uses two claims, the end card holds 5 seconds. Never write a spec like "12 hours" into a script before it is verified.

Cutdowns: 6, 15 and 30 seconds
Plan the cutdowns at the script stage, not in the edit.
- 30 s master. All five beats. Lives on YouTube, the launch page and longer placements.
- 15 s. Hook (2 s), reveal (8 s), end card (5 s). Drop the world beat and one claim. Google's standard non-skippable in-stream ads run 7 to 15 seconds (Google Ads Help).
- 6 s. Hook and reveal fused into one shot (4 s), end card (2 s). Google caps bumper ads at 6 seconds (same source). In our example, the orbit shot with steam rising is the 6-second ad.
If the reveal lands at 20 seconds, there is nothing to cut down to. Front-load the product.
Aspect ratios and framing
| Ratio | Size | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| 9:16 | 1080x1920 | Reels, Shorts, TikTok, Stories |
| 4:5 | 1080x1350 | Instagram and Facebook feed |
| 16:9 | 1920x1080 | YouTube, website, presentations |
Compose for 9:16 first, product in the center third so it survives a 4:5 crop. Keep supers out of the top and bottom, where platform UI sits. Ad-tool guides commonly suggest leaving about 14% at the top and 35% at the bottom clear on 1080x1920 Reels (Adnova).
The 16:9 master often becomes the hero film on the product launch website.
Sound-off design
Most feed viewing starts muted, so design as if sound is a bonus:
- The hook must be visual, never a voiceover line.
- Every claim appears as a super, large enough to read on a phone.
- The product is on screen by 10 seconds at the latest.
- Captions are burned in, not left to auto-captioning.
- Sound then adds texture: the ice crack, the cap click. Those details reward the viewer who unmutes.
After launch day
NoHo Arts reports that even winning ads fatigue after 2 to 4 weeks (NoHo Arts). Plan new hooks on the same footage from day one; see ad creative fatigue for how many variations you need.
